The Road Trip to Montenegro. Day 2

614 km and 1o hours driving from Calafat Romania to Budva Montenegro

Arriving at Calafat after a 4 hours drive from Bucharest marked the end of day one for those three fair ladies. Driving West the entire trip looked like they were chasing the sun. The sun which was lingering over the open fields sending its golden lights daring them to catch it.

In the beginning, the sun was sending kisses from behind the clouds and after a while was leaning above the river Olt dipping its finger in it. For  a while, they had the impression that they will catch the sun with their hand because the sun was so captured by its own reflection it that waters almost forgetting that is the time to go to sleep…

Looked so absent minded while lingering above the waters when  finally  sun realized it is late and went to hide behind the horizon immediately..

The night replaced the purple light of the sunset and stars were blinking on the sky. There were two particular stars which looked like holding hands and seeming to run over the open fields. Those two stars were, in fact, Venus and Jupiter which for a month will be in conjunction being one-half degree apart. With all the knowledge in reading the stars, Mirela could not foresee what was about to come because this conjunction was bringing dramatic changes…

But as fast as the night was falling soon it was replaced by a new day. After a good night sleep, the three fair ladies went back to their Audi carriage and after crossing the river Danube, the road trip begin. Now they were crossing the kingdom of Bulgaria, followed by the kingdom of Serbia, two countries  of Balkan Peninsula which once upon a time were part of the Ottoman Empire. Battles were fought against the Turks to prevent them from conquering the region and after they were conquered the fight for independence never stopped until  finally they got their independence in 1878.

From the moment, they crossed to border to Montenegro, or the Black Mountains, Mirela`s eyes were stuck to the carriage windows. This mountainous kingdom was so fascinating to her. Although the sun was playing hide-and-seek behind the mountain peaks the sunlight was reaching into the deepest valleys. Numerous tunnels were carved in the mountain to make a place for carriages to pass.

Green pastures and orchards were along the road greeting a tired traveler inviting it to rest for a while under the shadow. Sometimes  the roads were so empty that those three fair ladies felt like being in a kingdom lost on the corridors of time.

The winding roads were crossing the mountains unveiling the most spectacular views. The roads were going up and down continuously and whenever they might of thinking that the mountain area was over another mountain was appearing even higher and rockier than the one before.

An adventure is not an adventure if it does not have some moments of thrill. Their moment of the thrill was when the road to Podgorica, the capital, was blocked and they were in a situation to take a detour of  150 km, which meant to add another 2 hours to their long trip. Hopefully, with the help of a brother-in=arms, proud owner of an Audi A6 carriage they took a shortcut through a country road on which only one car at the time could pass, and it took all Crina`s ability as a fearless rider to drive safely the carriage on a road which was not suitable for all the cars coming from both directions at that time.

They followed to the Audi A6 carriage on a road which even Father Google was not able to see it, not knowing where there were going, assuming though that this shortcut will take them to the main road and from there they could continue their trip to Podgorica and then to their final destination, Budva.

After this small detour through the core of Kingdom of Montenegro, where not even the all-seeing eye of Father Google  could break through they were back on the main road able to ask Father Google for guidance.

While getting closer to Podgorica for the first time, they noticed a change in the scenery. The mountains were as tall as before but become less green and more barren showing their necked rocks. The vegetation also changed,  here and there shrubs were hanging desperately on some rock above the ravines.

Bridges were lying above the deep valley carved by the fast flowing river mountain.

The carriage was running on the road and at every turn of the road, another marvelous landscape was unfolding before their eyes.

Again the sun was ready to set marking the end of another day and they were still cruising on the mountains winding roads. There was so much beauty that no word or image can describe.

The magic of the sunset was covering the sky and soon the arms of the mountains were finally bathing in the cold waters of Adriatic sea and the city of Budva was appearing.

Budva their destination was close now. They were seeking for the sun and the sea and here they are…Sun was setting in the arms of the sea which was blushing like a maiden kissed for the first time. The mountains were stretching their arms eager to embrace the sea. They wanted it all for themselves…The Sea looked like was accepting the mountains embraces only to slip through their fingers…She belonged to the mountains, she belonged to the sun, she belonged to travelers coming to see her, yet… she belonged to none…then herself.
