Bucharest to Topola, Kaliakria Resort Bulgaria, 310 km
Wedding..the magical word for every woman. The word which is lighting up any woman imagination. The fairy tale which happens once in a lifetime…OK, OK… it can also happen twice, or if a woman is playing her cards right it can happen the third time also, after all, third time`s the charm. If you are thinking that I am going to tell you about my wedding, think again. I am a florist, which is pretty much synonym with always a bride`s maid never a bride, working for Maison Dadoo, This story is about a wedding taking place in Bulgaria which the company I am working for organized it. The story goes like this..
There is no story without a road trip same as there is no road trip without a story. It was a Saturday morning early September when we left Bucharest on the way to Bulgaria, more exactly Kalirakia Resort in Topola. My story would have been utterly boring if everything would have gone smoothly. There isn`t much to say when everything is perfect. This was not a normal road trip because I wasn`t going to Bulgaria for vacation but to do the entire set up for the wedding. I always dreamed about organizing a wedding in Greece, this was not in Greece but to me, it seems perfect. It was abroad, at the seaside and close enough to Greece. After a working sleepless night the trip begun with a delay, I was not worried about that we were still on schedule. I became very worried when we had a flat tire and suddenly the time I had to do the entire setup became very tight. I kept on wondering if we started with a flat tire what else could happen?…We were spending on the highway to gain some of the lost time and despite other incidents which proved to be minor and with the help of always trustworthy #googlemaps we arrived at Kalirakia Resort. I felt so relieved, all the images of a desperate bride crying because I ruined her wedding day which I had in my mind during the trip faded away. The presence of the sea, not too far away displaying its Caribbean colors filled me with a sort of relaxing mood and despite tiredness and tight schedule we were able to finish everything on time.
When everything was over and the feedback from the bride was excellent I could finally look around me and notice the surroundings. Although I did not even touch the sea water, my hair, my skin was having the scent of the sea. The salty smell was so strong and impregnated even in my clothes. It was closer to sunset and the view from the restaurant Il Balcon del Mundo where the wedding party took place was dreamy. Being built upon the vertical cliff facing the Black Sea it had the best position. From there I had the full view from Cape Kaliakra on the north up to the hilly cost of Balchik on the south. The vertical steep cliffs are the main characteristics of this part of Dobrogea/Dobruja giving to the shoreline its dramatic appearance. For me, it was a complete surprise because I came here with a completely different image in my mind, not a good one I have to admit. Although I am trying to be less judgmental sometimes, I am stubbornly persisting on being one. The image I had in my mind was one of a resort designed for all inclusive, the kind I will never go to, surrounded by other resorts of the same type. Instead, I found a place which could give me the feeling of detachment, best view, and some wild beaches, not easy to get to.
Although my stay there was brief, only one night, I enjoy it every minute. The beautiful sunset followed by thousands of flickering stars on the sky, which were so new to me. The night mist which was covering everything with its moist touch, it was like the sea was breathing and with it was embracing everything around it. The couple we organized the wedding for it is a beautiful couple, outside and inside, they invited us to the wedding party. Barely keeping us awake we went to the wedding, the atmosphere there was magic. The music and the dim light, the bride in her extraordinary fairy-like white dress dancing with her beloved. The happiness and deep love expressed by their smiles filled my heart with gladness. I was so proud that I was part of their happy day. And then, the morning…when the sun was rising from the sea dissipating the mists and fading the sounds of the music which was still in my head although the party was over.
Not too far from Kaliakria Resort was the Thracian Cliffs Golf and SPA Resort. The green golf course caught my attention and before returning to Bucharest, we decided to take a look around. From where it was placed, it seemed to be like a green buffer zone standing between the Black Sea and the limestone cliffs on top of which the Kaliakria Resort was built. I loved it instantly and in my mind, I was thinking that definitely this could be a place I would always return and never get bored of it. I am not a golfer and I do not even pretend that I understand this game, but I love the green lawn which was picture perfect because is reminding me England`s green rolling hills and perfect lawns that I miss so much.
The weekend was stressful and energy consuming, despite all this, the little time I had to watch the sea wiped out the tiredness and recharge my battery. The road back home was tedious and terribly uncomfortable, being in a van when are over 30 degrees outside with no air conditioning it can`t be comfortable at all. Despite all this, I was happy and smiley. I do not even know when those 5 hours on the road had passed. In my mind, I was sitting on the beach. looking at the sea, feeling the salty smell and listening to its whispers. The van was speeding on the highway and I was still on the terrace of Il Balcone del Mundo looking at the sea shimmers.
My life is strange, full of unexpected turn of events, but that`s the beauty of it. Although I know it, I keep forgetting it, luckily my life is patient enough to keep reminding me all the time that my life as it is, it is so damn beautiful and I should enjoy it to the full…
